Cattery Policy & Health Guarantee

Introduction

At Down Home Maine Coons, our kittens are raised in our home and are part of our family from the very beginning.
Our focus is on health, temperament, and preserving the beauty and structure of the Maine Coon breed.
We carefully select homes to ensure every kitten receives a lifetime of love and proper care.

Reservation Process

Kittens are reserved with a non-refundable $500 deposit payable through secure payment methods such as PayPal, Venmo or Zelle. Remaining balance is due in cash or cashier’s check at pickup.
Deposits ensure that a kitten is held specifically for your family. Once a deposit is received, the kitten will be marked as Reserved on our website as well as on our Facebook page.

Deposits are non-refundable because once a kitten is reserved, we turn away other potential families.

If we are unable to provide the reserved kitten due to a health issue or circumstances on our end, the deposit will either be refunded in full or transferred to a future litter at the buyer’s discretion.

Our Adoption application can be found here : Adoption Application.

Kitten Pricing

Our kittens are sold as pet companions unless otherwise discussed.

Prices vary depending on:
• Color and markings
• Gender
• Structure and breeding potential

Please see our Available Kittens Page or Contact Us for current pricing.

What Comes With Your Kitten

Every Down Home Maine Coon kitten goes home with:
• Age-appropriate vaccinations
• Veterinary health check
• Health record documentation
• TICA registration paperwork (if applicable)
• Starter food
• Blanket or item with familiar scent

Our goal is to ensure each kitten transitions smoothly into their new home.

Spay / Neuter Agreement

All kittens sold as pets must be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age recommended by the buyer’s veterinarian, but no later than one year of age. Once the procedure has been completed and verifiable documentation has been provided to us, we will issue the kitten’s TICA breeder slip/registration application. The buyer is responsible for any applicable TICA registration fees.

This policy helps protect the Maine Coon breed and discourages irresponsible or unauthorized breeding.

Breeding Rights

Breeding rights may be available on approved kittens for an additional $1,000. Kittens purchased with breeding rights will include a TICA breeder slip/registration application, a certified three-generation pedigree, and a breeding-rights-specific purchase contract. The buyer is responsible for any applicable TICA fees.

Pickup & Shipping

Kittens are typically ready to go to their new homes at 12–14 weeks of age.
This allows proper time for socialization, vaccinations, and development with their mother and littermates.

We prefer in-person pickup whenever possible.

Shipping options may be discussed on a case-by-case basis(buyer pays all applicable fees).

Veterinary Care

All kittens from Down Home Maine Coons receive age appropriate vaccinations and a veterinary health examination before leaving for their new home. We will provide veterinarian paperwork at pickup.

72 Hour Veterinary Check

Buyers must have their kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within
72 hours of pickup or delivery. If a serious health concern is discovered during this time,
the buyer must contact us immediately.

Genetic Health Guarantee

Our kittens are guaranteed against life-threatening congenital or hereditary genetic defects for a period of one year from the kitten’s date of birth. Any claim must be supported by documentation from a licensed veterinarian and, when appropriate, confirmed by a second veterinarian mutually agreed upon by the buyer and breeder. Remedies are governed by the terms of the kitten purchase contract.

Care Requirements

This health guarantee is valid only if the kitten receives proper care including
quality nutrition, routine veterinary care, and is kept primarily as an indoor companion animal.

The health guarantee does not cover conditions resulting from neglect, injury, improper nutrition, exposure to illness, or other conditions acquired after the kitten leaves our care. Common or treatable conditions acquired after placement, including upper respiratory infections and parasites, are not covered by the genetic health guarantee.

The Maine Coon breed does not stop growing until they are between 3 to 5 years of age. So proper care is very important for a long, healthy and happy life.

While pet insurance is not required, we strongly encourage families to consider coverage for their new kitten. Trupanion is a provider we recommend, but buyers should review available plans, coverage, deductibles, exclusions, and current rates to determine which policy best fits their needs. Trupanion uses a lifetime per-condition deductible, and pricing is based in part on your pet’s age at enrollment. Your rate does not increase simply because your pet gets older, although premiums may change over time due to factors such as veterinary costs and inflation.

Non Transferable

This health guarantee applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable.

Breeder Commitment

If at any point in the cat’s life the owner can no longer keep or take care of the cat,
we ask that the owners please contact us first so we can help ensure safe placement.
Our kittens should never be surrendered to a shelter/rescue.
